The fashion industry accounts for 10% of global carbon dioxide output due to international flights and sea transportation of goods. We take sustainability seriously. By sourcing half of our fabrics from the United States, we eliminate the excess air and water transportation from our supply chain.
Sun50 believes in manufacturing our products with the highest quality, eco-friendly fabrics that provide UPF 50+ sun protective qualities naturally, free from chemical enhancements. 100% of our apparel is produced in the United States and we source 50% of our fabrics from California.
Our California knit fabrics inherently provide UVA/UVB sun protection. These fabrics are made with natural fibers like Organic Cotton, TENCEL™ Lyocell and TENCEL™ Modal and are ideal for sensitive skin.
- TENCEL™ Lyocell is a natural fiber derived from renewable eucalyptus wood made in a closed-loop process. Soft as silk, cool as linen.
- TENCEL™ Modal is a fiber made from Beechwood, is free of pesticides, and is biodegradable. Silky soft, breathable.
Sun50’s fabrics with Organic Cotton are GOTS certified, meaning the entire supply chain for the fiber has been obtained from sustainable sources. GOTS fabrics go through a sustainable knitting process that takes into consideration wastewater treatment, air pollution and the safety of materials used in production. Also, all our fabrics sourced from California are made using non-toxic, azo-free, metal-free, and formaldehyde-free dyes.
Many of the fabrics made in the USA have lower minimum order quantities which help small batch production brands like Sun50 to achieve its mission: “Reduce the incidence of skin cancer by supplying the world with the most fashion-forward, easy to wear, and socially impactful sun protective clothing.” We are proud to focus on producing clothing from sustainable, earth-friendly fabrics to protect your skin from sun damage and reduce our carbon footprint.
